Sharp Announces Four New Blu-ray Recorders With Hard Disk Drives

Consumer Electronics Mar 4,2009 0

Sharp announced today four new AQUOS Blu-Ray recorders for the Japanese market, equipped with hard disk drives with capacities up to 1TB. Available in Japan in the end of March, the high-end model DB-HDW40 comes with a huge 1TB hard disk drive, a Blu-Ray dual Layer recorder, a dual Digital TV Tuner plus one additional Analog TV tuner. The device also offers a 7X AVC Recorder mode at 3.4Mbps, which can be used to save storage space. The BD-HDw40 also supports 1080/60p, DB-Live and features a special audio processing circuit for enhanced audio quality.

The available inputs include 2x S-video, 2x composite and 2x analogue audio. outputs include x1 HDMI, x1 S-Video, x1 composite, 2x analogue audio, 1x optical for audio and 1x coaxial digital audio.

The BD-HDW35 as well as the BD-HDW32 models share the same specifications with the high-end DB-HDW40, but they are equipped with 500GB and 320GB hard disk drives respectively.

Sharp's new AQUOS series also includes a cheaper version of the BD recorders, the BD-HDS32, which will retail in Japan in April. It is using a 320GB hard disk drive and also has BD recording capabilities. Compared to the rest models, the BD-HDS32 has one Digital TV Tuner and lacks USB and Ethernet connectivity.

All models support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bit-stream output and use a 12bit/148.5MHz video DAC. recording on BD-R media is achieved at 6x max, and on BD-RE at 4x.
