Apple Launches New Mac Mini
Apple today unveiled a completely redesigned Mac mini, featuring up to twice the graphics performance, a new HDMI port and a new SD card slot, all in a compact aluminum enclosure.
Apple said the product's power consumption would be less than 10 watts when idle. The new Mac mini, which is 7.7 inches square by 1.4 inches, has an HDMI port and a new SD card slot to allow transfer of files from a digital camera.
It has also a Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics processor, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 320 gigabyte (GB) hard-disk and 2GB RAM. It comes with Mac's Snow Leopard operating system.
A new integrated power supply eliminates the need for an external power adapter, reducing overall system volume by 20 percent and keeping cable clutter to a minimum. A removable panel underneath provides quick access for memory expansion.
The new Mac mini reduces power consumption by a 25 percent to less than 10W at idle, less than half the power required by competing systems.
Mac mini comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and iLife, Apple?s suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. The new Mac mini is shipping today and will be available through the Apple Store (www.apple.com), Apple?s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.
