Samsung Unveils Voice-controlled Camera, 55-inch OLED TV, New Windows Phones And Galaxy Note II
Samsung has unveiled a voice-controlled camera as part of a fall lineup of consumer gadgets aimed at setting itself apart from rival Apple.
The company presented the 16-megapixel Galaxy Camera at the IFA tech show in Berlin on Wednesday.
Samsung's Galaxy Camera runs Google's Android operating system, giving it features previously restricted to smartphones or tablet computers such as photo organizing, photo sharing and voice-control.
The camera is also boasting a 21x zoom lens, a a 4.8" (121.2mm) HD Super Clear LCD screen and a 16M BSI CMOS sensor. The device also features 'Smart Pro' technology, a series of modes that make professional-looking photography easy for anyone to achieve.
The camera's 'Auto Cloud Backup' feature will automatically save precious photos into the cloud via Samsung?s AllShare the instant they are taken. The GALAXY Camera also allows users to share photos at the same time as they shoot them with 'Share Shot.' As well as sharing to social networks and cloud services, users can also connect to a range of GALAXY devices including the GALAXY SIII and GALAXY Note II for automatic sharing of pictures across the GALAXY family. The new device enables connection to 3G or 4G, allowing photo sharing and browsing anywhere. The GALAXY Camera also functions on Wi-Fi with Dual Band and Channel Bonding for extra speed. Connectivity is supported by a quad-core processor that enables fast web-browsing and multi-tasking, as well as high-speed image processing without a significant impact on battery life.
The GALAXY Camera comes in two connectivity options: a 3G and Wi-Fi version or a 4G and Wi-Fi version.
The company also announced two new phones, the Galaxy Note II and the ATIV S running Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system.
The Galaxy Note II has a 5.5-inch screen and is narrower but longer than on the first version. The processor is faster, and the software has been further adapted for the included stylus.
The Note runs on Google's Android operating system and has been designed to work well with a stylus for jotting notes and drawing on a screen, while styluses for other devices tend to be an afterthought. The Note's screen also makes the phone more like a tablet and more suitable for playing games and consuming content.
Samsung says the new device will go on sale in Europe and Asia in October. It did not say when it would launch with a U.S. carrier.
Samsung also lifted the curtain on its first Windows Phone 8 device, the ATIV S. This is just the first in a big lineup of new hardware that?s coming with Windows Phone 8.
Inside the 8.7mm brushed aluminum chassis is a 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display made from Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and a rundown of killer specs: 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of onboard RAM, and an 8MP autofocus rear camera and 1.9MP front-facing camera. You'll have the choice of two storage capacities - 16GB or 32GB - and both models have a MicroSD slot for expanded storage. Backing all of this up is a 2300mAh battery .
With the announcement, Samsung became the first handset maker to announce a smartphone using Microsoft's latest mobile software, just days before the highly anticipated launch of Nokia's version.

Samsung claims that its 55-inch ES9500 OLED TV features unlimited contrast ratio, richer colors and faster response time. The ES9500?s has self-emitting sub-pixels, which can individually reproduce life-like colors. OLED technology is also able to differentiate between varying degrees of blacks, enabling its unlimited contrast ratio. With no need for a separate light source, the ES9500 offers a fast response time, eliminating motion blur.
Samsung's OLED TV comes equipped with Samsung Multi View, a feature that allows two people to watch two different shows simultaneously on one full screen?with the ability to hear each program separately using Samsung Multi View 3D glasses with integrated headphones.
Today Samsung also showcased its 75-inch LED ES9000 Smart TV. The set is powered by a dual-core processor, it has a thin 7.9-millimeter frame and a rose-gold finish. A hidden pop-up camera completes the superior design.
Both the ES9500 OLED TV and ES9000 Smart TV allow consumers to explore and make discoveries, be it through features like Smart Interaction, including Voice Control, Motion Control and Face Recognition, or premium Smart Content delivered through apps, games and services.
Samsung's rival LG Electronics has also introduced Game World, a portal that will include 3D games.
Samsung has worked with Rovio to develop a motion-controlled version of Angry Birds, which will be available for the ES9000 with motion control, the company said.
