Samsung To Develop Own Mobile Browser

Samsung To Develop Own Mobile Browser

Smartphones Sep 24,2012 0

Samsung has reportedly developing a new web browser based on the WebKit open source web browser engine. WebKit is an open source web browser engine, and it is also a base engine for Apple?s Safari and Google's Android browsers. WebKit's HTML and JavaScript code began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE.

The browser will be developed by Samsung's Information Systems America R&D Center located in San Jose, California, The Electronic Times reported today.

The "Advanced Software Platform Lab" at the Samsung Information Systems America R&D Center located in Silicon Valley had been seeking for a WebKit developer for quite some time now. Specifically, the company was seeking for "candidates with a keen interest in modern browser architectures and expertise in mobile software and hardware," as you can read here. Currently a number of WebKit professionals have reportedly started the development of the WebKit-based mobile browser.

Samsung's new browser is expected to compete with Google's Chrome Mobile browser.

Samsung will also bring phones running on the Tizen operating system in 2013. Tizen has been developed by Samsung along with Linux foundation, Intel and other companies.

The WiFi alliance has already certified a Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300_TIZEN) running on Tizen.

The Tizen operating system will run HTML5 based web-apps and no native development will be supported.
