QPS rolls out 32x CD-RWs

General Interest Nov 12,2001 0

QPS is also introducing this week a new 32x CD-RW burner available in both USB 2.0 and FireWire flavors. Although USB 2.0 is not presently installed on the Mac at the factory, it can be added to systems running Mac OS X through the addition of a third-party USB 2.0 interface card. For the rest of us, the FireWire drive is a likely alternati! ve. The new drives are expected to begin shipping in volume by the end of December. The new Que! drives sport 32x CD-R burning, 10x CD-RW rewriting and 40x CD-ROM read speeds. The drives sport BURN-Proof buffer underrun technology to help avoiding producing "coasters," or CD's that are not mastered correctly. It sports 4MB of buffer RAM. Bundled software includes Roxio's Toast. Also included are CD-R and CD-RW media, cables, a carrying bag and accessories. The suggested retail price for the 32x Que! USB 2.0 CD-RW is $299; the 32x Que! FireWire CD-RW costs $249.
