Apple's annual software developers conference kicks off today and Apple is expected to focus on Siri, new abilities and artificial intelligence tools for developers , along with iOS10. The company will unveil software improvements for its iPhones, iPads and Mac computers and a possible overhaul of its music service.

With the recent release of intelligent "chat bots" and voice-controlled home systems capable of artificial-intelligence features, Apple is expected to respond with an upgrade to Siri's smarts. The company hopes to expand Siri's capabilities well beyond Apple apps and searching the Web. Siri is the most visible aspect of Apple's artificial intelligence program. The main question is whether it will be enough to keep up with rivals like Amazon, Google, Facebook and others.

Apple declined comment on plans for Siri.
