HP To Launch Vive Branded PCs
High Tech Computer (HTC) is reportedly planning to release HTC Vive-branded PCs bundled with its HTC Vive to provide consumers virtual reality (VR) solutions at a budget price. HTC will acquire PCs from HP and rebrand them under HTC Vive, according to sources from the upstream supply chain in Taiwan.
HTC declined to provide any comment.
HTC has been pushing into the VR market. In addition to its partnership with Valve, the company has been developing technologies to help the HTC Vive support enterprise and education applications. HTC has also established the Asia Pacific VR Alliance and VR Venture Capital Alliance to promote VR content development, set up offices and pushed into channels worldwide for marketing.
Offering high-performing PCs make sense for HTC. The company be competing with Sony, which offers the Sony PlayStation VR, and Facebook's Oculus Rift. The PlayStation VR will support the PlayStation 4 and will benefit from the game console's strong user base, while the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift both require high-specification PCs in order to work, relatively limiting their user base.
