WSJ Expects Three New iPhones This Year, One With Three Rear Cameras

WSJ Expects Three New iPhones This Year, One With Three Rear Cameras

Smartphones Jan 11,2019 0

Apple plans to launch three new iPhone models this year, including one with an LCD screen to succeed its struggling XR model, adn another one with three rear cameras, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The company will introduce a triple-camera iPhone this year and another lower-priced LCD model, according to the report. Despite supposedly sluggish sales of its current iPhone XR LCD model, the news means the company still wants a diverse mid-to-high range lineup.

Smartphone makers including Huawei and LG already have already released devices with at least three cameras. Samsung even released a mid-range model, the Galaxy A7, with a triple rear camera setup. Adding a third camera would let Apple offer more consumer-friendly photography features like telephoto closeups and improved "bokeh" blurred backgrounds.

Renders of a triple camera iPhone leaked last week, with OnLeaks claiming Apple will introduce such a system later this year. Rumors had previously emerged after reports that Sony was boosting its 3D camera output for chips that will power rear-facing 3D cameras on smartphones in 2019.

According to the WSJ, Apple plans to build all of its iPhones with OLED displays by 2020.

Last week, Apple issued its first revenue warning in nearly 12 years, citing poor Chinese demand, sending its shares down 10 percent, their biggest intra-day fall in six years.
