Sprint to Offer 5G Connectivity to Google I/O Event

Sprint to Offer 5G Connectivity to Google I/O Event

Smartphones May 7,2019 0

Today at Google I/O, developers will get a glimpse of 5G speeds thanks to Sprint.

I/O attendees from around the globe are among the first to experience Sprint 5G with applications running on the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, Sprint’s first 5G smartphone.

During Google’s annual developer festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater, Sprint will be using Ericsson 5G Massive MIMO radios to deliver over-the-air dual-connectivity with 60 MHz of 2.5 GHz on LTE and 40 MHz of 2.5 GHz on 5G NR.

Demonstrations will include YouTube 4K video streaming, gaming, and augmented reality. Using the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, attendees will experience touchless control to interact with their environment, performing common tasks hands-free with just a wave.

In the coming weeks Sprint will begin launching its mobile 5G service. Areas of Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and Kansas City are expected to be among its first locations to launch; with areas of Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington D.C. slated to launch by the end of June. Sprint’s total initial 5G coverage footprint across all nine market areas is expected to be more than 1,000 square miles.

Sprint's customers will experience 5G mobility with the LG V50 ThinQ, HTC 5G Hub, and this summer, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. Using a key 5G technology, dual-connectivity (EN-DC), Sprint will deliver LTE and 5G simultaneously to customers’ devices.
