Huawei Plans to Develop Radars for Autonomous Cars

Huawei Plans to Develop Radars for Autonomous Cars

Enterprise & IT Oct 22,2019 0

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd will enter the market of car-equipped sensors for autonomous vehicles, Xu Zhijun, current holder of the company’s rotating chairmanship, told a Beijing conference on Tuesday.

The Chinese company looks to play a bigger role in the auto industry and will utilize its 5G technologies to develop millimeter-wave radars and laser radars for self-driving cars, the company's executive said, without providing a timeframe for development of the products.

Radar sensors are used by self-driving vehicle manufacturers to collect information from a vehicle’s surroundings. They are part of a series of advanced parts, processing units and technologies that are required in order to eventually achieve a “Level 4” or fully autonomous vehicle, which will require no human intervention during driving.

In April, Huawei launched 5G communications hardware for the automotive industry.
