Google Fiber Will no Longer Offer a Linear TV Product to New Customers

Google Fiber Will no Longer Offer a Linear TV Product to New Customers

Enterprise & IT Feb 5,2020 0

Google Fiber is getting out of the TV business.

In a blog, the company said it would no longer be offering its linear, cable-esque television service for new customers. Instead, Google Fiber will redirect new customers to other “over-the-top” streaming services, including Google’s own YouTube TV and FuboTV.

For current TV customers, Google will continue to provide them with traditional TV service. In fact, Google has added a second streaming service to its line-up: starting today, customers can sign up for fuboTV at the same time they sign up for their Google Fiber service. FuboTV offers more than 35,000 live sporting events each year. Their base package alone has more than 100 live channels and more than 30,000 TV episodes and movies on demand every month. You also get cloud DVR and the ability to stream simultaneously on multiple screens.

Before the changes, Google had been bundling its TV service, along with Fiber Internet, for about $130, after paying all set-up fees.

In December, Google Fiber added the option for new customers to sign up for YouTube TV when subscribing to the service. It also dropped its 100 Mbps plan to focus on gigabit internet connections.
