TDK Introduces DVD/CD Media Featuring HP LightScribe Technology
New Ultimate-Performance Discs Can Be Labeled by the
Same Drive Laser That Records Data
At CES 2005, TDK, a world leader in digital recording announced it has entered into a licensing agreement with Hewlett-Packard (HP) that authorizes TDK to provide TDK-branded recordable DVD and CD media featuring HPs proprietary LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. LightScribe technology enables laser etched silkscreen-quality labels on DVDs and CDs with the same drive that records the data. Customers simply burn the data side of a disc, flip the disc over and then burn text and graphics on the label side.
Chris Bailey, TDK Director of Recording Media, noted, "TDK recordable DVD and CD media featuring LightScribe technology makes it exceptionally easy for our customers to create custom-labeled discs with a professionally produced appearance." He continued, "Because no extra supplies are required, TDK discs with LightScribe are an especially affordable and convenient alternative to using a labeling kit and consuming expensive printer ink."
LightScribe recordable discs can be used in computers with burners that are already configured for use with LightScribe media, or consumers can separately purchase a LightScribe-enabled burner for installation into a computer they already own. Because the same laser is used to both record and label the disc, LightScribe-enabled drives are attractively priced.
