Sharp Introduces New Aquos 3D Blu-Ray Recorders, 10 Aquos Quatron TVs in Japan

Sharp Introduces New Aquos 3D Blu-Ray Recorders, 10 Aquos Quatron TVs in Japan

Consumer Electronics May 31,2010 0

Sharp today announced the relesae of two Aquos Blu-ray recorders supporting playback of Blu-ray 3D titles and 3D audio as well as ten new Aquos Quatron TVs including four high-end models with 3D support. Available in Japan in July, Sharp's BD-HDW700 and BD-HDW70 Blu-ray recorders have respectively 2TB and 1TB HDD onboard. Both support reproduction of Blu-ray 3D content as well as 3D Audio, with a set of Headphone 3D Audio compatible designed by Pioneer.

Further, these models feature Sharp's New Transcoder, a proprietary video compression scheme that enables extended recording of video data with high image quality and recording of two programs simultaneously in approximately (maximum) 10X extended record mode.

Beyond this, these units also feature a full suite of functions to enable linking with peripheral devices, including support for recording HD video from SKY PerfecTV! HD and cable TV (CATV), as well as home network functions that enable viewers to enjoy content recorded on these units on an AQUOS TV located in another room via a local area network.

They feature two digital and one analogue tuner, suport HD recording and upscaling of DVD content to HD. Two digital broadcasts can be simultaneously recorded using the AVC format. The players' BD drives support recording on BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW, and DVD-R DL media.

The players are DLNA ready and offer i.LINK, IEEE 802.11a/b/g and HDMI outputs.

Sharp will also introduce into the Japanese market four models in the new LV Series of 3D-compatible AQUOS Quattron 3D LCD TVs with four-primary-color technology. In addition, Sharp will introduce four new high-image-quality models in the LX Series and two models in the XF Series of AQUOS Quattron LCD TVs. Both 2D and 3D images are vividly reproduced based on four-primary-color technology.

Sharp developed four-primary-color technology based on its proprietary UV2A technology. This technology newly adds Y (yellow) to the three RBG (red, blue, green) primary colors, dramatically improving the ability to faithfully reproduce colors. In particular, it enables both 2D and 3D images to be reproduced with outstanding quality by vividly rendering colors such as brilliant yellow, brassy gold, and emerald green, which are difficult to reproduce using the three conventional primary colors. Further, a significant improvement in light utilization efficiency yielded a reduction in power consumption by approximately 10% compared to previous models with UV2A technology.

The 3D-compatible AQUOS Quattron 3D LV Series not only achieved vivid color image rendering, but also increased light utilization efficiency, providing a brightness approximately 1.8 times greater than three-primary-color LCD panels, enabling users to enjoy impressive 3D images. Further, the combination of FRED technology - Sharp's proprietary high-speed LCD drive technology - and Scanning LED Backlight technology that reduces image lag enables 3D images to be reproduced with a realistic sense of depth and with low crosstalk.

Sharp's LED TV 3D models come bundled with a pair of special 3D glasses that are comfortable to wear and feature a 3D to 2D conversion function. Simply pushing a button on the glasses while enjoying 3D images enables the individual wearing the glasses to see the images in 2D. The glasses can be powered via the TV?s USB port by using a commercially available USB cable. They also feature an Auto Power Off function.

The AQUOS Quattron XF Series features an edge-lit LED backlight system to deliver high image quality in a stylish full-flat slim design (only 3.9 cm thick).

Sharp said that it would gradually shift to making all of its LCD TVs AQUOS Quattron models. These models will be introduced around the globe and lead the way into a new era of color video.

Sharp new Aquos Quatron LED TVs include four HD 3D models, part of the LV3 series. These are available in 60", 52", 46" and 40".

The company's LX series inlcudes 2D TVs in sizes ranging from 60" to 40".

Sharp's ultra slim (3.9cm) XF series of TVs will be available in 46" and 52" versions.
