"..A powerful music industry groupFriday said it was suing music Web site MP3.com Inc., alleging the company brazenly violated copyrights with new features that send music to any computer. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said it filed the suit in a U.S. District Court in New York City, claiming the San Diego, Calif.-based company had illegally compiled an online library of 40,000 copyrighted albums.

The lawsuit names new MP3.com features offered through its personalization service called "My.MP3.com"'. One feature, called "Beam-it"' lets users listen to music from their personal CD collections from any computer. The feature involves no downloading of copyrighted music but instead verifies that a user possesses a CD included in MP3.com's database. The company then streams, or plays, those songs for the user on any computer after they log into their MP3.com account.." NULL
