Data Tests
- Pressed CD results

(74min and 80min CDSpeed graphs of Waitec STORM 52/2)
All the drives support the 52X CAV reading speed. As you can see there is not any clear lead but speaking with numbers, the Mitsumi drive is the fastest in the test with 39.26X average reading speed.
Teac CD-W552E seems to be the fastest drive in terms of seeking. The drive gave only 85msec in the Random seek mode and 165msec for the Full seek. The Mitsumi drive is also fast in the random and 1/3 modes but gave the third best performance in the Full seek. The Waitec and AOpen drives are following closely.

With CD-R media, all the drives improved their reading speeds and finished the reading process at nearly 52X. The Mitsumi CR-487ETE is again slightly faster but certainly all the drives behaved in a similar way.
The seek times with CD-R media are lower than in the previous test with the pressed discs. Again the Mitsumi and Teac drives are the fastest but this time the Mitsumi CR-487ETE takes the lead over Teac CD-W552E.

For this test we used 24X US-RW media from Mitsubishi Chemicals. The disc was fully written (650MB) and read back with CDSpeed. As it was expected, the AOpen and Waitec drives are the fastest in the test due to the full 52X CAV supported reading speed. The Mitsumi CR-487ETE and Teac CD-W552E support the 32X CAV reading speed for rewritable media.
