Sanyo Japan is currently developing the first chipset allowing DVD recording at 8x. It is not clear whether the new chip will support the -R or the +R formats or both of them. AccessTEK, the upcoming force in the Taiwanese market, is possibly the first manufacturer to use the new chipset in its new DVD recorder.
