AMD Releases Opteron 4100 Series of Processors

The new AMD Opteron 4100 Series processor offers a low power consumption per core, has been designed for cloud workloads and mainstream infrastructure servers with prices starting at $99. This is the first AMD server platform designed from the beginning to meet the specific requirements of cloud, hyperscale data center, and SMB users needing flexible and power-efficient 1 and 2P systems. This platform is also available for high-end embedded systems such as telecom servers, storage, and digital signage, through AMD Embedded Solutions. Systems from Acer Group, Dell, HP, SGI, Supermicro, ZT Systemsare expected beginning today and in the coming months.

The Opteron 4100 series, ("Lisbon") includes six-core and quad-core CPUs for maistream servers. The 45nm chips feature an integrated DDR3-1333, 6MB of L3 cache and can be connected to AMD's Socket C32.



The new series includes the following CPUs:



The AMD Opteron 4100 Series processor has two 16-bit lanes of HyperTransport 3.0 Technology links for up to 25GB/s peak bandwidth per link between processors and I/O. This is a 33% improvement in I/O bandwidth over the previous embedded AMD processor implementations.

The AMD Opteron 4000 Series platform?s performance and low power will be compatible with AMD's next-generation "Bulldozer" processor, planned for 2011.
