Apple suspended plans to make a TV set more than a year ago, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Instead, the company is working on a new Apple TV set-top box and related online services, the newspaper reported.

Apple has not provided any comment.

Apple has been widely rumored to make its own TV set, bit it seems that the company has prefered to improve its Apple TV instead, and has been in talks with broadcasters to provide Web-based television later this year.

In the meantime, in an interview with cable business channel CNBC, billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn on Tuesday said that Apple would introduce a television and a car.
