The ASUS DRW-2014L1T drive had left us with a few doubts after completing the tests with the original firmware Ver1.00 installed. However, with the firmware Ver1.02, Asus engineers managed to correct the majority of the remarks we reported in the first version of this review, mainly addressing issues related to the support for new DVD recordable media, as well as to the writing strategy for some other MIDs.

The points that need to be mentioned are the following:

• The reading sessions were very smooth while at the same time the average reading speeds were slightly lower than other drives of the same category.
• The overburning feature is supported by the drive, but the booktype feature is not.
• An adequate number of the scans with DVD media reported a clean bill of health. Failure in some cases is justified due to the drive's high writing speed.
• The drive burned the Maxell 12x DVD-RAM media at 14X, which is the highest speed currnetly offered by a drive.
• All burning quality tests with CD media passed with flying colors. No uncorrectable errors at all and overall, excellent behavior with CD media. Both CD and DVD Error Correction tests produced very encouraging results. The error correction capabilities of the drive are slightly better than average.
• The drive supports the Lightscribe feature.

Overall, the Asus burner performed decently. It' s support for all CD and DVD media is convenient enough for everyday tasks, while it offers the desired reliability during burning /reading.
