2. The package
The product comes with BSMI, CB, CCC, CE, cTUVus, CU, FCC, RCM, TÜV, UKCA certifications and OTP (over-temperature protection), OCP (over current protection), OPP (over-power protection), SCP (short circuit protection), OVP (over Voltage protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), SIP (Surge & Inrush Protection) features.
The retail package follows the typical be quiet! design and it's bigger than the PurePower 12 series. The tested 1000Watt variant according to the official press release will be found at the retail price of €219.90 / $259.90 / £215.99, with 10 years of be quiet! warranty service. In fact, be quiet! offers at DE/FR an express replacement service in the first year and also supports an international hotline free of charge, again for DE/FR customers.
Opening the package unveils its contents
The retail package includes black mount screws, several cable ties and a printed user manual in ten languages (CN, DE, EN, ES, FR, JP, PL, RU, TW, KR), and of course a power cord.
The PSU dimensions are (without cables) 160 x 150 x 86 (L x W x D), (mm), and its weight is 1.85 kg, similar to the PurePower 12 series.
be quiet! used its own 135mm Silent Wings branded fan for the Straight Power 12 series and according to the official specifications, includes Fluid Dynamic Bearing technology, a 6-pole motor fan that can rump up to 2100rpm and even at 100% load, the sound pressure (noise) it produces reaches 28.9dB(A), which is a very good performance.
The back of the PSU includes a honeycomb design to help transfer the produced internal heat from the PSU.
The main connectors of the PSU are displayed below
The PSU is designed with modular-sleeved cables in mind.
The maximum cable length is 100cm (SATA+PATA cables), while the 20+4 motherboard cable is 60cm, which is good even for big-sized cases.
Below is a chart with all included cables and their corresponding lengths. We would like to have a slightly longer distance between SATA and PATA cables of 200mm. There is one 600Watt power cable for newer GPUS and support for an additional four (4) PCIe (6+2pins) in order to support older VGA cards.
Included you will find 9 cables as follows and note there isn't any floppy cable (who uses it anyway...).
- 1x ATX-Motherboard (20+4-pin)
- 1x P4+4 (CPU)
- 1x P8 (CPU)
- 1x 600Watt 12VHPWR cable
- 2x (4x PCI-e 6+2-pin (GPU)
- 3x (Total 9x SATA + 2x HDD)
The Straight Power 12 series are rated 80 Plus Platinum, meaning you should expect up to 90% efficiency at full load (230V).
The Straight Power 12 series, are based on a strong single +12V rail, which should behave better with high loads when using the latest Nvidia RTX4000 series. Other specifications indicate
- +3.3V (A) => 25Α
- +5V (A) => 25Α
- +12V1 (A) => 83.3Α
- -12V (A) => 0.5Α
- +5Vsb (A) => 3Α
be quiet! also offers an online psu calculator, which can help you estimate, which power supply you want for your system. Lastly, this model includes high-quality, 105°C-certified Japanese capacitors that prevent high-frequency electronic noise that can occur during extreme load changes, especially when using modern graphics cards, that in theory should support longevity and stable operation. Straight Power 12 series supports a wire-free design on the DC side; all connections run directly through the PCB. With no cables to obstruct airflow inside the power supply, component temperatures, and signal quality are significantly improved, while signal interference from magnetic fields is reduced. It also significantly increases the lifespan of the power supply components.
The included cable for ATX3.0 enabled graphic cards is rated up to 600 watts, meaning it can support up to RTX4090 graphics cards, and for sure the 1200watt of rating is more than enough to keep you covered even shortly or when new higher rated graphic cards are released to the market.
