Helped by display and computer peripheral shipments, Benq, Taiwan’s largest mobile phone maker, posted NT$7.83 billion in revenues last month, growing 12% from August and 49% from the same month last year. Its revenues for the first three quarters reached NT$76.57 billion, rising 71% from a year earlier. Wireless communications products contributed 33% to Benq’s September sales, display products 42% and optical storage products 25%.

The company shipped 400,000 LCD and CRT displays last month, with an additional 5,000 units of own-brand projectors. Mobile phone shipments were 1.3 million units last month. Helped by new models to be released, the company expects strengthening in mobile phone shipments in the fourth quarter.

The company expressed optimism for the upcoming Christmas season, projecting another increase in sales in October. The performance for November, however, will depend on the outcome of the labor lockout affecting US West Coast ports, the company said.

Benq expects a continuous surge in revenues well into November if the dispute resolves quickly. If the lockout is prolonged, the company said that its Mexico plant will support demand in the US. At present, the dispute has not impacted the company, Benq said.
