Don't Expect an "Edit" Button For Tweets, CEO Dorsey Says

Don't Expect an "Edit" Button For Tweets, CEO Dorsey Says

Enterprise & IT Jan 15,2020 0

Do not expect to see an "edit" button for your Tweets.

Twitter users have been asking for the option to edit tweets ever since the service launched, but the company has never given any clear response on whether it could be an option in the future.

Now, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has provided an answer. During a video Q&A with Wired, Dorsey was asked if there’ll be an edit button for Twitter in 2020. “The answer is no,” he replied. Dorsey has also responded on Twitter to the answer, saying that the company had made some practical considerations, but will probably "never do it," referring to an edit button.

Dorsey also noted that the decision to leave out an edit button has its roots in Twitter’s original design. “We started as an SMS, text message service. And as you all know, when you send a text, you can’t really take it back,” he says. “We wanted to preserve that vibe, that feeling, in the early days.”

There are good reasons for editing tweets, he says, like fixing typos and broken links, but also malicious applications, like editing content to mislead people.
