eBay To Open Interactive Storefronts
EBay Inc is opening virtual stores called "shoppable windows" this month that the company hopes will help retailers generate more sales from their existing physical store networks.
Ebay is partnering with Kate Spade Saturday to launch
four 24-hour "Window Shops" in Manhattan. Ebay's screens measure about 9 feet across and 2 feet high and will appear on the front windows of closed stores. Each interactive storefront will allow shoppers to select and order merchandise from Kate Spade Saturday, Kate Spade's new weekender line, on a touchscreen, schedule a free one-hour delivery to anywhere in the city, and pay with PayPal Here upon delivery.
The storefronts - which have been beta-testing in Ebay's San Jose offices for the last few months - will be open to New Yorkers through July 6 throughout Manhattan.
