Facebook Adds New Features To Groups

Facebook Adds New Features To Groups

Enterprise & IT Apr 26,2011 0

After six months since their launch, Facebook's groups have been improved by integrating Questions, the ability to upload photo albums, and additional membership controls. Groups offer a simple way to share with just a few people, allowing Facebook users to create a private space to share with specific friends.

Users have always been able to post updates to Groups, but now they can post questions and polls for only members to weigh in on.

Where before users could only upload individual photos, now they have the option to upload entire albums directly to their group, making it even easier to share their photos with the people who most want to see them.

For group owners, Facebook has also added a control that lets users approve people before they are added to the group.

For people who were using Facebook's older version of Groups, the company has created a tool that makes it easy to upgrade to the new Groups format. Owners and members of old Groups will be receiving information about how to upgrade within the coming weeks, Facebook said.

In addition to the other new group features, Facebook is also introducing the Send button. With the new Send button, now users can share things with any of their Groups or individual friends on Facebook.

Starting today, the Send button will be available on over 50 websites, and it will appear in more places soon, Facebook added.

Facebook Deals Expanded

In related news, Facebook is launching a deals program Tuesday in five U.S. cities, following on the popularity of Groupon and other services that offer deep discounts.

By allowing small businesses to leverage the Internet while helping consumers score great deals, these group-couponing services have become some of the fastest-growing businesses in the world.

Facebook hopes to exploit its existing networks of friends and family when it begins testing offers in San Diego, San Francisco, Atlanta, Dallas and Austin, Texas.

Starting Tuesday, when Facebook users in the five test markets log into the site, they will see a deals insignia at the bottom of the page.
