Imation showcases new optical storage solutions at COMDEX 2002

Imation showcases new optical storage solutions at COMDEX 2002

General Interest Nov 18,2002 0

Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN - News), a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, will feature its complete portfolio of optical storage solutions during COMDEX Fall 2002, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 16-20, 2002, in meeting room N239. New offerings feature the latest speeds in recordable optical media, including 4X DVD+R media, 4-16X High-Speed and 8-24X Ultra-Speed CD-RW media, as well as the Imation FlashGO!(TM) 2.0 device -- the latest in flash/memory card reader/writers. "With more than 20 years of technology leadership and experience in optical media, Imation is committed to the development of current and future optical technologies that advance the performance capabilities of storage," said Dave Ferraresi, vice president and general manager, Imation's Personal Storage Solutions business. "This continued emphasis of optical leadership, combined with Imation's stringent quality control standards, allows us to deliver high-quality products with superior performance so customers can better manage, store and share their digital information."

The Quality Difference of Imation DVD Media

Imation's new 4X write-once DVD+R media features the fastest recording speed of any current DVD format, and supports 1X, 2.4X and 4X write speeds. With the ability to record at 4X speed (44megabits per second), a 4.7GB write-once DVD+R disc can be recorded to full capacity in less than 15 minutes. With its high-capacity, density and data transfer rate, Imation 4X write-once DVD media is ideal for massive data storage and retrieval, and long-term data archival of video, photo, music and data files. Availability for Imation 4X DVD+R is scheduled for January 2003.

Imation's write-once DVD media uses a special blue metal azo dye for the recording layer, the highest quality dye type available. This premium dye is optimized to be more stable - contributing to lower error rates, longer storage life and higher resistance to ultraviolet light. By combining Imation's stringent error rate testing with its high quality metal azo dye layer, its write-once DVD media is designed for maximum interchange and compatibility with drives, players and recorders.

Imation's portfolio of recordable DVD media includes all current formats, including DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media, in capacities from 2.6GB to 9.4GB. With the storage capacity of seven CD-R/RW discs and the potential to store thousands of digital photographs or approximately two hours of digital video, Imation DVD media is ideal for the combined storage of music, video and data, large capacity data files, Internet downloads and massive archival storage. Customers can purchase Imation DVD in a variety of pack sizes, including single, multi- and combo packs through select retailers, Internet resellers and distributors.

Pushing the Performance of Rewritable CD-RW Media

Imation also will preview the most recent additions to its expanding line of CD-RW media. The new 4-16X High-Speed CD-RW and 8-24X Ultra-Speed CD-RW discs are rewritable CDs that feature 650MB of data storage, an increased recording speed and totally noise-free playback. Imation 4-16X High-Speed CD-RW and 8-24X Ultra-Speed CD-RW are only compatible for recording with the latest CD-RW drives which feature their respective High-Speed or UltraSpeed logos. In compliance with industry Orange Book standards, Imation CD-RW discs can be rewritten up to 1,000 times, and can be used for playback in existing multi-read drives such as CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and rewritable DVD. Imation 4-16X High-Speed CD-RW is scheduled for worldwide availability in December, and Imation 8-24X UltraSpeed CD-RW media is scheduled for availability in January 2003.

One Simple Device for all Flash Memory Card Needs

The Imation FlashGO! 2.0 USB flash memory card reader/writer will also be showcased at this year's show. Utilizing USB 2.0 technology, which is up to 40 times faster than USB 1.1, the Imation FlashGO! 2.0 device is designed to support all seven types of flash memory cards, including Compact Flash (Type I and II), Smart Media, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital, Memory Stick and IBM's Microdrive. Without the need for additional adapters, this all-inclusive device provides easy plug and play convenience for multi-device owners who want the flexibility and portability of one reader/writer to upload or download their memory card digital information and then transfer it to and from their PC. Packaged with a sleek carrying case, the Imation FlashGO! 2.0 USB flash memory card reader/writer will be available in mid-December at a MSRP of $59.99.
