India Blocks Xiaomi Sales In The Country
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has been reportedly stopped from importing and selling phones in the country, a few months before the company was set to release its flagship handset Mi4. According to media reports, Delhi High Court issued the order over alleged infringement of Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson's patents.
"The patents in question are Standard, Essential Patents (SEPs) which are subject to FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory) terms," said spicyip.com, an India local blog on intellectual property.
According to the site, the order does not allow Xiaomi to sell, advertise, manufacture or import devices that infringe the SEPs in question.
The Economic Times newspaper also reported on the subject on Thursday, citing legal documents.
The newspaper said the Delhi High Court had asked Xiaomi and Flipkart to suspend the import and sales of devices until Feb 5, when it is due to hear a case related to patent infringements that Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson had filed in India against the Chinese firm.
