LG Develops Multi-standard TV Chip For Mobile Devices

LG Develops Multi-standard TV Chip For Mobile Devices

Smartphones Dec 17,2007 0

LG Electronics completed the development of a decoder chip compatible for mobile TV standards in Korea, Japan and the Europe. The mobile TV decoder chip allows portable devices like mobile phones and navigations to receive TV signal. The chip supports Korea's T- and S-DMB, European DVB-H/T and Japan's ISDB-T.

Also, its optimized circuit design enabled to reduce the power consumption to 140mW, the lowest consumption compared with 400mW of the existing products in the European mobile TV market.

It adopted H.264, the video decoding standard for mobile TV, and provides the PIP feature based on 60fps. In addition, its mobile XD-Engine improved the distinction and its deinterlacer feature helps the improvement of the picture quality in watching the European mobile TV.

Also, it support not only 1-seg, Japan's mobile multimedia broadcasting system, but also 13-seg, the terrestrial multimedia broadcasting system.

LG Electronics plans to adopt the chip to those mobile phones which will be exported to Japan and the Europe next year.
