- Writing Quality

In order to test the LiteON SOHW-1673S DVD+R DL writing quality, we used the LiteOn SOHD-167T and the Plextor PX-712A drives.

  • CMC Double Layer media @ 2.4X

Although the reading process completed without any errors, we can see that there was a lot of "turbulence" in the graph line in the first layer of the DL media.

Using Plextools, we can see the very high levels with the PI reaching all the way to almost a 1000 while some POE. No serious errors reported but then again, not a very inspiring performance.

  • Philips Double Layer media @ 4X

Great smooth line excellent reading, even though we are looking at a 4X burned speed DL media. Excellent performance in this case.

Somewhat high PI/POE in this case, a good deal above the 280 limit for a good plex-scan. But it's fairly good overall.

  • Traxdata Double Layer media @ 2.4X

Same smooth graph with the Philips media, only this time it's 2.4 burned speed, nice reading.

Though the reading may be good, with Plextools it's not the case. Extremely high PI/PO which cannot be excused since the burning speed was the usual 2.4X.

  • Verbatim Double Layer media @ 4X

And here we have excellent reading, smooth line from the beginning of the scan till the end and the plex-scan that follows, confirms this very good writing with DL media, burned at 4X speed.

Philips and Verbatim had the best writing quality. Although the Traxdata Plextools scan reported high PIE error levels, the CDSpeed graph seems to be as smooth as it gets. Overall, the DL writing quality is good.
