Micron, SK Hynix May Invest In Taiwan SSD Controller Companies
The growth in global demand for SSDs has driven Micron Technology and SK Hynix to invest in Taiwan-based SSD controller IC design houses, according to a report.
Digitimes.com's sources claim that Silicon Motion Technology, Phison Electronics and JMicron Technology are among the targets of the two NAND flash makers.
The move could help the two companies strengthen their competitiveness, following the recent acquisition of LSI's accelerated solutions division (ASD) and flash components division (FCD) by Seagate Technology.
Silicon Motion has been cooperating with SK Hynix for years, and Phison has been tied up with Micron and Kingston Technology.
