Microsoft's Next Windows OS Details Appear Online

Microsoft's Next Windows OS Details Appear Online

Enterprise & IT Mar 21,2007 0

With Windows Vista trying to convince users for its advanced security and entertainment offerings, Microsoft has been reportedly planning its next operating system, possibly called "Seven" A PowerPoint presentation that is supposed to be created by a technical person at Microsoft Denmark appeared online at the AeroXperience blog.

The presentation is dated January 31, 2007 and it is related to the innovations in the infrastructure of Windows. The three main topics of the presentation are Desktop, Systems Management and Security. Out of the whole presentation sits 2 slides regarding some preliminary areas of investment for future versions of Windows. "With the recent news of codename "Fiji" becoming an MCE release, the following information more than likely applies to "Windows Seven"", reads the blog's post. Windows Seven is the codename that Microsoft is using internally for the successor to Vista.

Building on the foundation of Windows Vista, this information has 2 main groups targeted: End Users and IT Pros.

According to the slides, planned areas of investment for end users in Windows Seven include making it easier to find information and improving mobile connectivity. For example, a detailed list of future Windows features includes converged local, network and Internet search capabilities and improved wireless connectivity, management and security.

For IT professionals, the presentation indicates, planned improvements include added security measures, such as extending data protection and management capabilities to peripheral devices and expanding usage monitoring capabilities for compliance purposes. Cutting PC operating costs will also be a priority, via new features such as simplified provisioning and upgrading of systems, according to the slides.

Microsoft has already begun working on its next OS, and one executive indicated last month that the company hopes to ship the follow-on during 2009 ? although Microsoft later issued a statement saying that it is "not giving official guidance to the public yet about the next version of Windows."

Rumors are always attractive, so for additional information visit the AeroXperience blog.
