In August 1995, the calculation of pi up to 4,294,960,000 decimal digits was succeeded by using a supercomputer at the University of Tokyo. Written by D.Takahashi and he collaborated with Dr. Y.Kanada at the computer center, the University of Tokyo, SuperPI was ported to personal computer environment such as Windows NT and Windows 95 and called Super PI.
The software offers up to 32M calculations of PI numbers. In all cases, we tested up to 8M calculations:
In both tests, the Asus Maximus Extreme got the lowest calculation times.
- wPrime
wPrime is a benchmarking application designed to use a highly multithreaded approach to calculating the square-roots of large amounts of numbers (up to 32 billion at this stage!)
wPrime uses all four cores of quad processors, therefore it can finish the task much faster than a C2D.
The Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard had the lowest calculation time with 16.844 secs.
