MWC: Sony Adds Four New Photo-centric Smartphones To X-series
Sony in Barcelona has detailed Xperia Smart products and announced four additions to the X-Series - the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra.
Xperia XZ Premium
The new Xperia XZ Premium is Sony's most powerful and advanced smartphone to date, and the first handset to feature both a 4K HDR display as well as super slow motion video capture.
The smartphone features a memory stacked Exmor RS sensor with technologies usually only found on premium compact cameras to provide 5 x faster image scanning and data transfer. This means you can create sensational videos from your everyday moments by recording in 960 frames per second, providing Super slow motion video playback that is four times slower than other smartphones. Plus Predictive Capture stays one step ahead and automatically starts buffering images when it detects motion even before you press the button, so you can find a moment your eye may just have missed from a selection of up to four shots taken a second before you clicked. On top of this, the new 19MP high resolution sensor has 19% larger pixels to capture more light. Additional improvements have been made inside Motion Eye to the Bionz for mobile processing engine meaning it detects moving objects more precisely to enable Predictive Capture. Clarity, detail and texture are also improved to give exceptional image quality thanks to the redesigned G lens.
For the first time on mobile, you can enjoy a selection of 4K HDR content from Amazon Prime Video on Xperia XZ Premium.
Xperia XZ Premium is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform, making it one of the first smartphones capable of Gigabit Class LTE (up to 1Gbps). This is possible because of the integrated Snapdragon X16 LTE modem. File transfers are also super-charged thanks to the USB 3.1 connection with a transfer speed of up to 5Gbps. And with the USB Type-C socket, plugging in is easy because the connector is always the right way up.
The device's exterior has an exquisite glass loop surface which when turned over reveals a luxurious mirrored effect on the back. It has a finger-print sensor power button along with a live wallpaper which moves the elegant loops as you swipe, to the colours you see on screen which are matched to the colours of the exterior.
The Xperia XZ Premium is also water resistant, dust-proof and reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The battery is maximised with Smart Stamina which uses the Xperia learning engine to estimate how long your current battery will last based on your normal usage. It even warns you if it detects you're going to run out of power later that day and prompts you to activate Stamina mode.
High Resolution Audio playback allows you to hear every nuance and detail in a track as if you're right there with the artist. Sony's native DSEE HX technology even up-scales streamed tracks or MP3s to near High-res quality and if you connect with wireless speakers or headphones, LDAC ensures you don't lose a drop of sound quality by transferring three times more audio data than normal Bluetooth. Working with your PlayStation 4 console, you can play the latest games on your Xperia XZ Premium's 4K screen.
Xperia XZ Premium is available globally in in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black, from late Spring 2017. A range of supporting accessories will be available including the Quick Charger UCH12W which offers hours of battery time by plugging in for just a few minutes and Bluetooth Headset with Speaker SBH56 which enables hands free talking through the loud speaker whilst multi-tasking and has a remote camera shutter.
Xperia XZs
The Xperia XZs is available in select markets and also integrated the new Motion Eye camera to offer 960fps Super slow motion video, Predictive Capture and all the added quality benefits of the redesigned G lens and new Bionz for mobile image processing engine.
The device features a 5.2" Full HD display which is integrated into the loop surface design with the ALKALEIDO metal back. Design elements also include water-resistance and finger-print sensor integrated into the power button.
Xperia XZs is available from the beginning of April 2017 in Ice Blue, Warm Silver and Black.

Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra
Two more new mid-range handsets came in the shape of the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra, both of which deliver advanced photography capabilities.
The XA1 and XA1 Ultra feature a borderless design, cameras that are worthy of a high-end premium status and octa-core processors.
Camera expertise are taken from Sony's digital camera division to deliver a leading rear camera for both XA1 and XA1 Ultra that offers 23MP high resolution with a large 1/2.3" Exmor RS for mobile sensor, bright F2.0 lens. You're guaranteed a superfast journey from launch to capture in 0.6s and fast and accurate Hybrid Autofocus.
Front cameras are the backbone of the selfie world and the 8MP, 23mm wide-angle lens on Xperia XA1 will let you capture all the action even in a group selfie without missing anyone out. The XA1 Ultra features a 16MP front camera with Optical Image Stabilizer to eliminate the effects of handshake and improve low-light selfies, plus a smart selfie flash to naturally illuminate your face. Both models allow you to capture the perfect selfie easily with just a wave via the 'Hand Shutter' camera feature.

Xperia Touch
Xperia Projector evolved into Xperia Touch! Originally announced within the same walls twelve months ago, this box of tricks has gone from concept to reality and turns any flat surface into a 23" HD touchscreen enabling families and friends to gather, enjoy and interact with a host of features.
The interface is fast and responsive to physical touch - it's built using Sony's SXRD projection display technology, and touch is made possible through a combination of Infrared light and real-time detection via its built-in camera, at a rate of 60 frames-per-second.
The home screen skin is engineered specifically for touch - designed to be both minimalistic and accessible in brightly lit or dark conditions. It provides real-time weather information, a memo board for doodles or video notes, calendar access and a Skype portal for video chat with colleagues or loved ones.
Not only is Xperia Touch compatible with PlayStation 4 Remote Play, it will run any app or game downloaded from the Google Play Store.
Xperia Touch rolls out to Europe via select retailers and the Xperia Store Online in selected countries from Spring 2017, with a suggested retail price of €14993.

Xperia Ear "Open-style CONCEPT"
Xperia Ear "Open-style CONCEPT" is based on 'open-ear' audio technology developed within Sony's Future Lab Program.
It utilises Sony's acoustics research to deliver wireless 'open-ear' stereo headphones, so you can listen to music and receive notifications, whilst simultaneously hearing sounds from the world around you.
Two powerful spatial acoustic conductors and driver units work together to transmit sounds directly to the ear canal. And just as with Xperia Ear, Xperia Ear "Open-style CONCEPT" will be powered by Sony Agent Technology - a personal assistant that uses conversational voice interaction and head gestures to help you get things done, access information and communicate.
Sony Mobile will continue to develop new features to further increase the in-ear assistant capability. An example of this is 'Anytime Talk' - a new voice-chat service that will allow users to instantaneously start a group conversation in real-time without searching through contacts or needing to dial, with a simple single button press or head movement. The beta version will roll out for the first-generation Xperia Ear over the coming months.
