Noctua NH-D15 G2
4. Conclusion
The Noctua NH-D15 G2 series is an interesting product that has after developing for many years to reach air cooling performance perfection. We all know and love the NH-D15 series that even today can be used by serious users, even though it started to show its age, compared with newer solutions from the competition. The G2 series offers three different variations and today we examined the "regular" version that is supposed to get good results for the AM5 platform, while Noctua also offers two more, the HBC (High Base Convexity) variant is specifically optimized for LGA1700 processors and the LBC (Low Base Convexity) variant, by contrast, is specifically optimized for relatively flat CPUs. All versions come with the same retail price so users have more options to get and buy.
The package includes two new re-designed NF-A14x25r G2 fans with improved performance-to-noise efficiency in round-frame 140mm fans. The product supports many different mounting sockets, like AMD: AM5, AM4, and Intel: LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1150, even mounting kits may allow the installation in previous sockets as well. For sure Noctua keeps their product compatible even with the latest mounts for future Intel/AMD sockets, so getting this product will last you for many many years and different systems.
Users should, before buying, check the special Noctua has with supported CPUs/motherboards and of course cases. There should be enough space in the case for this big CPU cooler to fit. This is a dual-design tower that needs at least 168mm of motherboard-to-side panel clearance. Passing to the tests area, this CPU cooler won't disappoint you, and probably it's the best air cooler we tested so far. The new 140mm fans will produce very low noise and will keep your CPU cooler, even AIO will perform best, depending on the model and size. Adding a third 140mm is also an option, even Noctua suggests avoiding it. The mounting kit also uses hex mount screws, that offer better stability and performance compared to normal Philips screws.
Concluding this review, we have to say that Noctua NH-D15 G2 (regular edition) doesn't disappoint and improves the already well-known NH-D15, which still has very good performance but needs a refresh. The performance you will get from the NH-D15 G2 with the AM5 platform is top, for an air cooler and for sure the -7mm offset improves performance compared with the normal position. The retail price of the product is also top, reaching around 150 Euro, which may trouble end users since many AIO coolers cost that much. Noctua offers 6 years of warranty and future possible upgrades for mounting mechanisms for upcoming sockets to continue using this product. Good job Noctua!
