Nokia Updates Windows Asha Phones, Nokia Lumia 800 and 710

Nokia announced today that the Mail for Exchange, which enables push email, calendar and contact data synchronization between compatible Microsoft Exchange email servers, is now available for free in the Nokia Store for Nokia Asha 302 and Asha 303. The Finish company also released a new software update for the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, which will bring some new features to the devices and access to new apps.

Mail for Exchange on the Asha 302 and 303 supports Microsoft Exchange 2003, 2007 and 2010 Servers, and Microsoft Office 365 Mobility online service. In addition to the encrypted email storage, a variety of Exchange ActiveSync security policies are supported, including alphanumeric password, minimum length for password and remote or local wipe after maximum password attempts, fulfilling companies' device security needs.

In addition to Mail for Exchange, the Asha 302 and Asha 303 have a QWERTY keyboard, harness an 1GHz engine, feature Nokia Browser, which compresses data consumption by 90%, and brings access to social networks and the Internet.

Regarding the the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smarphones, the new software update adds two new functions: Internet sharing (otherwise known as WiFi tethering) and flip-to-silence.

Internet sharing will allow users to share their mobile Internet connection over Wi-Fi with up to five other devices or computers, turning the Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 710 into mobile Wi-Fi hotspots.

As for flip-to-silence, one users turn their phones face down, all incoming phone calls and alerts will be silenced.

As well these new features, the software update will also allow users to download some new Nokia apps from the Windows Phone Marketplace. Chief among these are Camera Extras, which enhances the camera capabilities of the smartphones. New shot options include:

- Smart Group Shot makes it easy to capture group shots with just one attempt. With a single press of the camera button, five shots are taken and using advanced algorithms, users can select the best 'face' shot for each person in the photo.

- Action Shot allows users to take images of movement and action. Consequtive shots (burst) can be reviewed all one on top of another.

- Self Timer lets users put themselves in the picture.

- Panorama enables users to capture wide landscape images. On-screen instructions guide users as their move their phones, while it stitches together panoramic images with precision alignment.

The software update also brings to Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 710 phones the 'Contact Share' feature, which lets users share and receive Business Cards by SMS. "Play To' makes it possible for users to share pictures, videos and music from their Lumia smartphone to other DLNA - enabled devices on their home network.

These apps (except Play To, which is already out) will only be available for Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 after installing the Windows Phone 7.5 software update.

The software update is available during June and July 2012 and the apps will be rolled out globally by the end of July.

For Nokia Lumia 900 or Nokia Lumia 610 ,odels, Internet Sharing and flip-to-silence are already available, and their owners will also get Camera Extras and Contact Share soon.
