Nvidia Tegra 4 "Wayne" Specs Allegedly Leak

Nvidia Tegra 4 "Wayne" Specs Allegedly Leak

PC components Apr 7,2012 0

While Nvidia plans to bring to the market its Tegra 3 family of SoCs this summer, VR-Zone Chinese claims to have a leaked specification sheet detailing the company's next generation Tegra 4 SoC, codenamed "Wayne." According to Nvidia the Tegra roadmap disclosed by Nvidia last year, the company's "Stark" platform will appear in 2014 and it will outperform Tegra 2 by a factor of 100x. This year Nvidia will release the "Wayne" platform, which will be succeeded by the "Logan" platform one year later.

The document shows four different Tegra 4 models coming in 2013, all using the same architecture as the Tegra 3: quad-core chips with a fifth "companion" core for low-power operations.

The flagship T40 model is clocked at 1.8GHz T40 and is said to arrive in the first quarter of next year, followed by another flagship model, the 2GHz T43, in the third quarter. The AP40 is listed as a mainstream model, and it is set to appear in Q3. This one will feature clock speeds ranging from 1.2GHz to 1.8GHz. These three SoCs are based on ARM Cortex A15 processors are expected to power 10-inch tablets. A fourth model, the SP3X, will be aimed at 7-inch devices, with clock speeds ranging from 1.2GHz to 2GHz. Available in Q3 2013, this one will use ARM Cortex A9 processors and will also be the first SoC to feature built-in LTE and 42Mbps HSPA+ support. It will be most probably codenamed "Grey" and will pacj networking technology of Icera, a 3G and 4G specialist Nvidia bought last year. Icera's architecture makes it possible to cleanly integrate their baseband processor into system and software platforms and, ultimately, into the super chip itself.

Nvidia is not expected to comment on the "leaked" specs, at least before June's Computex show in Taipei.

Nvidia's Tegra 3 chip is using ARM's Cortex A9 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz.
