Oak chipset selected for Samba MP3 recorder

Oak chipset selected for Samba MP3 recorder

General Interest Jan 9,2001 0

"...Oak Technology announced today that the new SAMBA MP3 and compressed audio player/recorder, jointly developed by Infinite Data Storage (IDS) and UnitedBox, obtains its recording capability from one of Oak's highly integrated optical storage controller chipsets.

SAMBA is a CD-compatible portable personal Internet audio and data storage recorder that can be used as a PC peripheral, a personal storage device and an MP3 player/recorder. Designed by IDS, of Scotland, and manufactured and supplied by UnitedBox, in Singapore, SAMBA gives users the power to store, archive and replay digital data, including music and other information obtained from the Internet, from CDs or other personal archives. SAMBA plays and records from and to 80-millimeter mini CD-R and CD-RW media, and is ideal for recording digital audio MP3, WMA and other compressed audio standards as well as digital photographs and data files.

Oak's CD-RW chipset, consisting of the 8X OTI-9790 CD-RW controller and OTI-9791 analog front-end signal processor, enables SAMBA to record on standard CD-recordable media (CD-R and CD-RW) that can be played in the CD-ROM drive of any of the more than 250 million personal computers in use worldwide, as well as many consumer CD players. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, Oak will use SAMBA as a platform to demonstrate its recently introduced SimpliCD Compact Disc recording software. ..." NULL
