For our Blu-Ray reading tests, we used a variety of media, either burned or pressed Test Discs to measure the drive's performance.

According to the official specifications, the Pioneer BDR-S13U-X can read BD-ROM at 12x, BD-ROM DL at 8x, BD-ROM TL at 4x, BD-R at 12x, BD-R DL at 8x, BD-R TL/QL at 6x, BD-R(LTH) at 8x, BD-RE at 10x, BD-RE DL at 6x, BD-RE TL at 4x, M-DISC(BD) SL at 12x, M-DISC(BD) DL at 8x and M-DISC(BD) TL at 6x.

Blu-Ray Single Layer

Blu-Ray Movie 25GB

The drive reads in CAV the disc, starts from 6.44X and ends at 16.03X.

 

Blu-Ray Movie 25GB Ripping

The latest MakeMKV version supports the Pioneer BDR-S13U-X (and BDR-S13J-X) to backup BD-Movies to your HDD with full reading speed.

We saw up to 11.6X ripping speeds that concluded a 11.29mins for a full disc rip.

 

BD-R 25GB

The drive started at 4.97X and finishes reading at 11.97X producing an average of 8.46X.

 

BD-RE 25GB

The drive starts at 4.06X and finishes at 10.11X resulting an average of 6.99X.

 

Dual Layer Blu-Ray Media

Movie 50GB

According to the official specifications, the reading speed for BD-ROM is up to 8X, which more or less confirmed from our tests.

BD-R 50GB

BD-RE 50GB

BD-RE 50GB discs are read at 6X.

 

Triple Layer Media

Ultra 4K Blu-Ray 100GB Movie

Most triple layer BD-ROM discs will be read up to 4X, which was confirmed from our tests as well.

 

BD-R 100GB

BD-R 100GB discs were read at 6X.

 

BD-RE 100GB

disc recognized as "CD-ROM" from various software, no tests performed :/

 

Quad Layer Media

BD-R 128GB

Again the Pioneer BDR-S13U-X completed the test according to its specifications with 6X average reading speed.
