Plustek Launches Pro Film Scanner

Plustek Launches Pro Film Scanner

Cameras Sep 21,2004 0

Plustek today launched the OpticFilm 7200 professional-grade film scanner, offering the market's highest film-scan resolution (7200 x 7200 dpi) in a consumer device. Until now, due to the high cost, film scanners with professional resolution were nearly exclusively purchased by service companies, high-profile photographers, and ambitious amateurs/prosumers. This era has passed with the introduction of the OpticFilm 7200, the first consumer-priced high-resolution 35mm film and negative scanner. User-friendly and affordable, the OpticFilm 7200 is ideal for organizations or individuals who wish to scan their work and share it on the Web with fellow photographers or anyone wanting to digitize and archive their slides and negatives onto CD - to create their own photo albums or digital slide shows. Users can easily preserve their work and valuable memories onto compact disc for easy access and retouching in the future. Launched earlier in the year in Germany, the OpticFilm is already the winner of the coveted "foto MAGAZIN GUT award" and the "PC Direkt Budget Kauftipp! award." Priced at $199, the OpticFilm 7200 will begin shipping in the U.S. in September.

Uncompromising Power

The OpticFilm 7200 offers a physical resolution of 7200x7200 dpi and true 48-Bit color depth. At this resolution even the smallest slide details are scanned with brilliant quality. The scanner is able to generate an uncompressed picture file (24-bit color depth) that is 200 MB or larger or equal to about a 75-megapixel resolution digital camera.

Despite this enormous amount of data, the OpticFilm 7200 is phenomenally fast. A preview scan takes about ten-seconds, a slide scan at 7200-dpi takes just under 130-seconds, and a negative scan takes less than two minutes. For jobs where 3600 dpi is more than sufficient, a slide scan takes about 70-seconds and the digitizing of a negative under 50-seconds. These high scan speeds are achieved by the OpticFilm 7200's USB 2.0 high-speed interface that transfers data much faster than USB 1.1.

The picture quality of the OpticFilm 7200 is designed for professional results. With an advanced proprietary lens system and two displaced CCD sensors, pictures show even the finest details that previously were achievable only on large format machines used by the best laboratories.

Quick Success, Simple Use

Scanning with the Plustek OpticFilm 7200 is easy to master; simply place the slide or filmstrip in the holder and manually insert sideways into the unit -- that's it. For scanning, users can choose to use either Plustek's QuickScan software or use the bundled software, SilverFast SE 6 from LaserSoft Imaging. Either way, extensive assistance guides users through the scan, ensuring that even beginners are able to achieve impressive results.

The OpticFilm 7200 is equipped with a mini-light table (Illuminated Slide Viewer) on top for the quick preview and evaluation of slides and negatives. On the front, there is an IntelliScan and a QuickScan button to further automate the scanning process. This is especially valuable for photographers who hold an extensive picture archive that requires quick digitizing.

Fully Loaded

In addition to the power supply unit, cable set, and slide/film holders, the OpticFilm 7200 also includes a black cushioned nylon bag. It was designed especially to accommodate easy and safe transport of the unit during on-the-road jobs. In addition, a complete software package is offered:

-- LaserSoft SilverFast SE 6

World class professional scan software, containing Photoshop, TWAIN plug-in and stand-alone application, supplying novice users and professionals with a powerful tool for scanning and color reproduction.

-- NewSoft Presto! PageManager

Award-winning photo/image management software supports over 100 popular applications, including color OCR and full-text indexing functions.

-- NewSoft Presto! ImageFolio

The complete multimedia image-processing program with sophisticated image-editing tools lets you quickly create new images or enhance old ones.

-- NewSoft Presto! Mr. Photo

Web photo software makes your photos come alive! You can create personalized greeting cards, postcards, calendars and more.

-- Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF file reading program)

-- QuickScan (one-click utility software)
