Prodisc Technology to begin production of 16x DVD-R, 4x DVD DL discs
Prodisc Technology, the third largest producer of optical discs in Taiwan, is set to produce 16x DVD-R discs, and the company will also begin shipping 2.4x and 4x DVD+R DL (single-sided double-layer) discs at the end of this month.
Prodisc recently gained certification of its 16x DVD-R discs from BenQ and AOpen, two Taiwan optical-disc-drive makers, the company indicated. The starting date for volume production of the disc hinges on market conditions, the company added.
Prodisc will also be the third Taiwan maker to produce 2.4x and 4x DVD+R DL discs, with CMC Magnetics and Ritek being the others. Mitsubishi Chemical currently dominates the global market for this format, with a retail price of NT$400 per disc in Taiwan, according to Prodisc.
