Ricoh announces MP5125A at CeBIT 2002

Ricoh announces MP5125A at CeBIT 2002

General Interest Mar 11,2002 0

RICOH Europe B.V. (EPMMC) presents numerous new products in the sectors DVD+RW/+R, CD-R/RW and digital cameras on their new stand in Hall 21/B63 at the CeBIT 2002 in Hanover. This year, as well, the future-oriented digital memory system DVD+RW remains in the spotlight, which already achieved a high level of acceptance with trade as well as consumers in the past Christmas season. With six functions combined in a single housing – the Super Combo writer with ATAPI interface by Ricoh writes DVD+RW, DVD+R, CD-R and CD-RW and reads DVD-ROM and CD-ROM media. The new MP5125A-DP now allows writing on 4.7GB DVD+RW as well as the new 4.7GB DVD+R media. The maximum writing speed for all DVD+ media is 2.4x, corresponding to a speed of about 20x for CD-R/RW media. This results in significant time advantages for the user, particularly in case of large volumes of data. Another plus in the use of rewritable DVD+RW media is the background formatting technology. Prior to initial writing the MP5125A-DP only formats part of the blank disc, which corresponds to only two or three minutes and thus 1/15 of the total formatting time. After that, the drive automatically continues formatting when it is not busy with writing or reading. The background formatting feature also yields considerable time savings for the user. Partially formatted DVD+RW media can be removed from the drive at any time and writing can be resumed later.

For the daily back-up of data on DVD+RW the MP5125A-DP offers, by means of its lossless linking function, the possibility of later adding and/or editing files at any time. The creation of personal video or comprehensive digital photo family albums can also be realized without any problem.

The MP5125A-DP is equipped with the JustLink™ function for data storage on CD-R/RW media, a proprietary development by Ricoh for automatic prevention of «buffer underrun errors». These occur when the data transfer from the computer is unable to keep up with the writing speed of the drive. Buffer underrun errors cannot occur when writing on DVD+RW/+R media.

The Ricoh MP5125A-DP kit comprises, aside from the drive, a comprehensive software package for video and data processing, high-quality Ricoh media, installation material as well as a QuickStart manual and a User Manual (on CD).

Expected availability: from April 2002.

The MSR price is not yet available.
