Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVME SSD
2. Tests
The Samsung Magician v7.0 offers a quick look at the drive's performance.
The AJA Test System shows a quick overview of the drive's reading/writing speed
Passing to a more well-known benchmark, the ATTO Disk Benchmark shows the performance with various file sizes from 0.5Kb, 1Kb, and 2Kb up to 8192MB file sizes. The max performance we saw was 3.0GB/sec reading and around 2.6GB/sec writing.
Passing to the newest ATTO Disk Benchmark 4.01.0F1, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus got similar performance as with the previous test.
The AS SSD Benchmark offers more test results, even though performance seems rather low at this benchmark.
Passing to the CrystalDiskMark software, we get more indication about the drive's performance. Note that results from different versions will vary, for reference we tested all available builds:
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.4
CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2
CrystalDiskMark 7.0.0
CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4
At the IOMeter test, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB gave around 103.000 points, a very good score if you ask me, for comparison the Samsung 990Pro 1TB NVME Drive gets around 143.000.
How about the running temperatures of the drive? With the HWInfo64 software, we saw temperatures from 55 to 66 Celsius (with a passive motherboard heatsink installed).
Will this drive gets slowdown when writing big files? Yes if you copy very big files (above 60-70GB file size), but not many users are copying such big files, and in case the 1.5GB/s of performance is acceptable.
