Samsung Introduces New F2FS File-System
Samsung has developed F2FS, a new Linux file-system designed for NAND flash memory-based storage devices such as solid-state disks, eMMC, and SD cards.
Created by Kim Jaegeuk at Samsung, F2FS is short for the "Flash-Friendly File-System" for Linux. Jaegeuk has chosen
a log structure file system approach and adapted it
to the new form of storage. According to its announcement, the new file-system remedies some known issues of the very old log structured file system, such as snowball effect of wandering tree and high cleaning overhead. It also adds parameters not only for configuring on-disk layout, but also for selecting allocation and cleaning algorithms.
In its current form, F2FS weighs in at 16 patches, which will add new code to the Linux kernel tree.
