Samsung To Launch Google TV

Samsung To Launch Google TV

Consumer Electronics Nov 22,2011 0

Samsung is ready to roll out its Google TVs, the head of Samsung's TV division said on Tuesday. Samsung's president said that the company is in the final stage of negotiations with Google to manufacture Internet-connected TVs powered by the U.S. company's software. Yoon Book-keun, president of Samsung's digital media business, said talks between the two companies on Google TV are at the last stage.

Google TV is currently comes built-in on certain Sony BRAVIA television models and on Logitech set-top boxes -- allows consumers to access online videos and websites on their TVs, as well as specialized apps such as video games.

Earlier this month, Logitech said it would stop producing the set-top boxes for Google TVs after disappointing sales of early models.

Samsung has been supporting Google TV since its announcement and last January the company has on display a Google TV-enabled Blu-ray player and companion box (prototypes) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Samsung has not yet decided if it will unveil the Samsung-backed Google TV during a January consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

LG Electronics also plans to unveil its Google TV at the January trade show in Las Vegas, Bloomberg reported earlier citing two unnamed sources.

Last month Google updated its Google TV service, hoping to tap into a vast new market despite consumers' lukewarm reaction to its initial offering.

Yoon also confirmed Samsung's plans to unveil TVs featuring next-generation OLED displays at the upcoming CES to be held in January in Las Vegas. According to early information, the company's flagship OLED TV will feature a 55-inch OLED panel.
