Samsung Showcases 2,560 x 1,600-pixel 10.1-inch LCD Panel at FPD 2011

Samsung Showcases 2,560 x 1,600-pixel 10.1-inch LCD Panel at FPD 2011

Consumer Electronics Oct 26,2011 0

Samsung is showcasing a 10.1-inch LCD panel that can display 2,560 x 1,600-pixel content at the FPD International 2011 show, which opened its gates today in Yokohama, Japan. Designed for future tablets, the oxide semiconductor TFTs (IGZO) offers the potential of low cost and electron mobilities of 10x those of a-Si, according to Samsung. Higher electron mobility can be used to reduce device size and increase aperture ratio, enhance electronic device integration on to the glass, increase TFT speed, ultra high definition (UD) displays. The transmittance of Samsung's panel is 3.8%, and the power consumption of the panel excluding its backlight is 2.6W.

The company added that the manufacturing process of the new TFT is slightly much different than the one used for normal amorphous silicon TFTs.

The brightness and contrast ratio of the panel are 300cd/m2 and 500:1, respectively, while it has a 70% or higher color gamut on NTSC standards.

Samsung employed the Plane to Line Switching (PLS) mode, which helps Samsung deliver swider viewing angles compared to IPS panels.

Samsung has not disclosed commercialization plans for the new panel.
