Samsung's s 2TB 850 PRO SSDs Are Rolling Out Globally
Samsung Electronics on Monday has begun selling the superfast 2TB 850 PRO SSDs, designed for systems that handle data-intensive content such as gaming. The new 850 EVO and PRO uses Samsung's in-house and upgraded MHX controller, second-generation or 32-layer 128Gb V-NAND technology and four 20nm-class process technology-based 4Gb LPDDR3 DRAM chips. Also, as the cells are staked vertically with the V-NAND, the products don't adversely affect endurance. Samsung guarantees the 2TB 850 PRO for 10 years or 300 terabytes written (TBW), and the 2TB 850 EVO for five years or 150 TBW.
Samsung says that the 850 PRO model has writing and reading speed of 520 megabytes per second and 550 megabytes per second.
Following the launch of the 2TB 850 drives, Samsung will expand high capacity 3D V-NAND SSD lineups to include mSATA and M.2 form factors to address the gaming PC, laptop PC and high performance SSD markets.
Samsung leads the SSD market with a 44.7 percent market share, followed by Intel.
