Silicon Image's Latest Digital Video Processor Powers New Denon DVD Players

Silicon Image's Latest Digital Video Processor Powers New Denon DVD Players

Optical Storage Jan 7,2002 0

Silicon Image today announced that its SiI 504 digital video processing chip has been designed into Denon's new DVD-9000 and DVD-A1 progressive-scan DVD players. With these latest wins, Silicon Image is the digital video processor supplier of choice for Denon DVD players offering progressive output. Interlace-to-progressive scan conversion -- otherwise known as deinterlacing -- dramatically improves image quality by eliminating visible scan lines, flicker and other motion and interlacing artifacts. Stephen Baker, vice president of sales and marketing at Denon, noted, ``We once again selected Silicon Image as the digital video processing supplier for our latest progressive-scan DVD players. Silicon Image's Pure Progressive(TM) technology performs the best deinterlacing for film source content, resulting in the highest progressive output quality available. The SiI 504 also offers superior price/performance for interlace-to-progressive scan conversion. When coupled with Silicon Image's excellent customer support and strong roadmap for further video processing innovations, this is an unbeatable combination.''

The SiI 504's advanced motion adaptive and source adaptive techniques create an output image of incredible detail without introducing the motion and interlacing artifacts commonly associated with other interlace to progressive scan converters. Source Adaptive Processing provides automatic, seamless detection of video sources, whether they be film, video or graphics masters, and Source Transition Management provides smooth transitions between these source types. Setting the SiI 504 apart from other deinterlacing solutions, its proprietary diagonal processing, transition management and post-processing technologies produce high-quality images from even the most noisy and unstable sources.

Jon Kiachian, Silicon Image's director of product marketing, display products, stated, ``The success of the SiI 504 is testament to our leadership position in the consumer electronics market with video processing products. Building upon the success of the SiI 503, the SiI 504 offers enhanced price/performance for applications requiring the highest quality deinterlacing, such as progressive scan DVD players, set-top boxes, high-definition TVs, A/V monitors and video projectors. Denon in particular has been a proponent of our digital video processing technology, which they've incorporated across the board in their leading-edge progressive-scan DVD players.''

The DVD-9000/A1, while featuring the latest from Silicon Image for the best in progressive scan video reproduction, will also incorporate innovative technology for multi-channel audio reproduction. The DVD-9000/A1 will playback not only DVD-Video discs, but also Music CD/CD-R/CD-RW discs, MP3 encoded CD-R/RWs, JPEG-file photo discs and DVD-Audio discs. It is with DVD-Audio that the DVD-9000/A1 will deliver the finest sound quality this high-resolution format provides. With on-board Digital Bass Management, the highest-grade digital-to-analog converters and build quality second to none, the DVD-9000 should become a reference standard for DVD players.

The DVD-9000 and DVD-A1 will begin shipping in Q1 2002. The DVD-9000 will be marketed in the United States, while the DVD-A1 is optimized for the Japan and Asia markets.
