Sony Introduces Cyber-shot DSC-T9

Sony Introduces Cyber-shot DSC-T9

Cameras Nov 1,2005 0

Sony announced its new Cyber-shot DSC-T9 model that it says is the first to combine an optically stabilised, prism-folded lens with high ISO sensitivity. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 offers a CCD sensor resolution of 6.0 effective megapixels and ISO sensitivity from 64 to 640, coupled with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar branded 3x optical zoom lens. Sony is the first manufacturer to incorporate an advanced lens-shift optical image stabilizer into a camera with a folded-path lens system. This is what allows for a compact form; the lens does not have to extend from the body of the camera.

The lens has an effective focal length range of 38 - 114mm. Other features of the DSC-T9 include shutter speeds from 30 to 1/1000 second, a choice of Multi-pattern, Center-weighted, or Spot metering, five white balance presets, 10 scene modes, USB and video connectivity, and both Memory Stick Duo / Pro Duo storage coupled with 58MB of built-in memory.

?Our T Series set the standard for slim, stylish, point-and-shoot cameras with fine image quality,? said James Neal, director of digital imaging products at Sony Electronics. ?Now the use of this category of cameras is pervasive. With the DSC-T9, we are taking this category a step further by incorporating advanced imaging technologies that ensure that you get the shot, even in unfavorable light conditions, like nightclubs and restaurants.?

The camera is supplied with an InfoLithium battery, battery charger, multi-connector cable, wrist strap and software CD-ROM. Optional accessories include the Cyber-shot Station cradle for about $80, a sports pack for about $100, and leather carrying case for about $40. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 goes on sale in the US next January, priced at US$450.
