TDK Revolutionises Broadcast Footage with Blue Laser Disc

TDK Revolutionises Broadcast Footage with Blue Laser Disc

Optical Storage Sep 9,2004 0

TDK, provider of optical and digital recording media will demonstrate its first offering to the broadcast industry, the blue laser disc for Professional Disc system, at IBC 2004. The disc has been developed for use in Sony's XDCAM Professional Disc System, which uses new blue laser technology to record more quality data at faster speeds. Broadcasters and movie-makers should visit stand 9,338, hall 9, at IBC 2004 to see TDK exhibiting a prototype of the new disc and holding playback demonstrations.

The TDK Blue Laser Professional Disc is the perfect solution for recording and keeping quality broadcast footage. The discs are designed to work with Sony's new XDCAM camcorders, and as the discs are optical it makes editing films much easier than previous tape products. The discs hold five times the capacity of a DVD - 23.3GB and are capable of a high-speed data transfer rate of 72Mbps.

Not only do they enable images to be transferred electronically to IT systems, but it is also easier to find the section of the disc needed, so broadcasters no longer have to fast-forward and re-wind through reels of tape to edit their material. This saves time and effort in the editing suite.

The quality is higher too - scratch, smudge and static resistant, the Professional Disc has an extra hard coating which gives unrivalled reliability and durability. Moreover, as the disc is rewritable more than 1,000 times, it is amazingly cost efficient.

Guests are invited to the TDK stand to get a first-hand look at a playback demo of the Professional Disc, where on a professional disc recording deck they will be able to see this new Blue Laser Disc in action.

Other data storage media that will be on view include:

* Blu-ray Disc
* Blue laser disc for ?Professional Disc for Data?
* DVD+R Double Layer
* DVD-R/+R Photo Quality Printable Disc
* DVD+R 16x

Another highlight will be the prototype of future LTO Ultrium technology - ideal for broadcast houses looking for a large data archiving solution.

Main specifications of the TDK Professional Disc:
Disc diameter: 120mm
Total thickness: 1.2mm
Cover layer thickness: 0.1mm
Track pitch: 0.32 mikro meter
Recording method: Phase change recording
Recording capacity: 23.3GB
User data transfer rate: 72Mbps
