Toshiba Corp plans to release laptop computers equipped with next-generation DVD drives at the end of next year, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Wednesday.

This is the first time that a major personal computer maker has revealed details of a product that is compatible with one of the next-generation DVD formats, the report said, adding that Toshiba's new laptops will play regular DVDs and compact discs in addition to HD-DVD discs.
