WinZip 11.0 Public Beta Now Available
WinZip 11.0 beta continues to make working with Zip files easier by introducing a number of useful new features and expanding on functionality introduced with WinZip 10.0
WinZip Computing announced today that WinZip 11.0 beta is ready and available for public testing.WinZip is a powerful and easy-to-use compression utility that quickly zips and unzips files to conserve disk space and greatly reduce email transmission time. WinZip's public beta policy gives users the opportunity to preview this latest version before its official release.
"We introduced enhanced technology with WinZip 10.0 that allows users to create smaller Zip files than ever before," says Edwin Siebesma, president of WinZip Computing, referring to PPMd and bzip2 compression methods. "However, it can be time consuming and confusing to determine when to use which compression method. That's why we're pleased to introduce our new 'best compression feature. Now, users can let WinZip decide what compression method to use, depending on the individual file type. It's the best way to ensure maximum file efficiency."
WinZip Computing incorporated user feedback to enhance the Job Wizard. Users who depend on this tool to backup data sets, archive important documents, or distribute information to others on a regular basis, can configure WinZip 11.0 Pro to email the log file and/or resulting Zip file automatically after completion. Job Wizard users can also use a new "browse" feature to find a specific folder on an FTP server, and select custom jobs directly from the Job Wizard and Quick Pick tray bar menus.
WinZip 11.0 beta also allows users to open .BZ2 and .RAR files, and music lovers will appreciate the ability to compress .wav music files more efficiently without compromising sound quality. When using WinZip in the powerful Explorer-style view, users can now view image thumbnails within WinZip without launching a separate application, so it's quicker and easier to work with images in Zip files. Pro users can view the image in the new internal image viewer without having to extract the image file from the Zip file.
"These powerful new features as well as several additional enhancements make WinZip 11.0 our most complete compression offering to-date," says Siebesma. "Although we have not lost focus on the basic zipping and unzipping, we have added a lot of additional functionality to facilitate the use of Zip files when emailing, backing up data, protecting data, installing screen savers and software, working with images and much more."
